Course Syllabus
I. Allegro
Chris begins by discussing the Baroque instruments this piece would have been written for. He goes on to lay out his philosophy on the Classical style, getures, articulation, phrasing, the sometimes nefarious high E-flat, and much more.
II. Andante
Reading from the score can be a great way of gaining context in this movement. Chris discusses the nuance in the harmony of this gorgeous opening theme, how that impacts phrasing, how to treat chromatic gestures, and more.
III. Allegro
The third movement is the most technically challenging, but Chris breaks down the gestures, the sometimes oddly grouped phrases, the octaves toward the end, and much more.
