David Krauss is a sought-after artist and thought leader in the trumpet world, with a distinguished career steeped in both performance and pedagogy.
Born in Long Island, Krauss studied with the legendary Wynton Marsalis before pursuing both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Juilliard. He has served as the principal trumpet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra since 2001.
Beyond his performances, Krauss is dedicated to education, teaching at prestigious institutions such as the Manhattan School of Music, the Mannes School of Music at the New School, Columbia University, and Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts. During the summer season, Krauss also teaches at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and the Aspen Music Festival.
Krauss co-directs Berkshire Summer Music, an innovative music program he founded with his wife Kristen, to fuel the musical journey of aspiring young artists. He also hosts the podcast Speaking Soundly, which features in-depth, candid discussions with top artists.
