Joseph Haydn's Trumpet Concerto in E-flat Major for trumpet (Hob. VIIe/1) was composed in 1796 for the virtuoso Anton Weidinger, who had developed a keyed trumpet capable of playing chromatically throughout its range. The first movement, Allegro, highlights the instrument's extended capabilities with its bright, energetic themes and intricate interplay between the soloist and orchestra. First performed by Weidinger in 1800, this concerto has become one of Haydn's most popular works, showcasing his innovative use of the keyed trumpet to explore new melodic possibilities in the middle and lower registers.
